Free Cell Phones for Senior Citizens and Victims of Domestic Violence

Bath-- Steuben County TRIAD has partnered with the Steuben County Office for Aging and Arbor Development’s “The Net” program to provide free emergency cell phones to seniors and victims of domestic violence.  These refurbished cell phones can be utilized to call 9-1-1 in an emergency situation.  For those interested in receiving a free cell phone, please call the Office for Aging at 664-2298 or 776-7813.  Depending on the response, callers may be placed on a waiting list until additional phones are shipped.

TRIAD is asking for the community’s assistance in providing this service.  Used cell phones will be collected throughout Steuben County at the following locations:

  • Wireless World on Market Street in Corning
  • Wireless World on Seneca Road North in Hornell
  • Wireless Zone on Main Street in Hornell
  • Wireless World on Geneva Street in Bath
  • Wireless World on Victory Highway in Painted Post
  • Bath Police Department
  • Corning Police Department
  • Hornell Police Department
  • Steuben County Sheriff’s Department
  • American Legion Post 846 on Main Street in Canisteo
  • Arbor Development office on West William Street in Bath
  • Office for Aging in the county building in Bath
  • Office for Aging in the Corning Senior Center in Corning
  • Office for Aging on Broadway Mall in Hornell

The phones will be used to assist individuals here in Steuben County. Besides being able to provide this valuable service, TRIAD and Arbor Development will realize a small payment for the used cell phones which will enable these agencies to provide additional services and programs throughout the county.  Anyone can drop off used cell phones at any of these locations.  Please keep this in mind when up-grading cell phones.  The collection of cell phones keeps hazardous cell phone waste out of our landfill, and provides the community with a responsible recycling option.
