Mary Kellogg currently works at the Southern Tier Hospice and Palliative Care, where she is the registered nurse. She was originally working as a trauma nurse in the emergency room but after she had to have three hip replacement surgeries she realized she needed a slower pace job, so she made the switch. For the past seven years she has been involved with the patient admissions, on call and working with case management.
Mary states that her favorite part about her job is meeting the patients and their families. One challenge that she faces is that the weather and the time required to find and get the patient’s homes throughout the three county service area, however Mary says that the most useful thing she has learned from this job is taking enough time with families to express their needs so they can offer the best realm of services.
Since she started working there seven years ago, one change that Mary has seen is the rapid growth in both the patients and the staff. Currently the Southern Tier Hospice is putting extensive energy into a rebranding process. Mary is most proud of her organization’s ability to work together to achieve the same goal of meeting the needs of the patients and their families.
Currently living in Odessa, Mary enjoys scrapbooking and jewelry making in her spare time.
