Tax Return Assistance Available for Area Seniors

posted 3/1/2010

The Chemung County Department of Aging and Long Term Care would like area seniors to know there is help available for them in completing their Federal and State Income Tax Returns.

The Chemung County AARP Tax-Aide group has been preparing Federal and State Income Taxes for Chemung County seniors since February 8th at the Catholic War Veterans Clubhouse located at 100 McCauley Ave in Elmira Heights. This free service is available by appointment only.

Seniors must make an appointment by telephoning the Red Cross office at 734-3317 ext. 168 on Monday or Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Seniors are reminded to bring last year's tax returns and this year's income and property tax forms to the site. Seniors should only call for an appointment on Monday or Wednesday.

"It is truly a great benefit to our community that the AARP Tax-Aide service is available to provide assistance to people needing help with their tax returns", said Sam David, Director of the Department of Aging and Long Term Care. "I encourage seniors to take advantage of this program."
