Kids First Initiative Helps Community

posted 5/26/2010

The 2009/2010 members of the AmeriCorps Kids First Initiative Program continue their work at the various site agencies, as well as continuing to develop as a team through regular meetings and trainings at the Institute.  Member feedback on their agency experience reflects the situation in the non-profit sector at large, with many agencies experiencing organizational stress as funding is cut, as well as a few agencies that continue their good work as usual.  Members have attended a “Professionalism in Human Services”  training, which helps them cope as agencies experience organizational change, and the AmeriCorps members themselves allow many agencies to do work not otherwise possible in the current downturn.  For example, an agency where an AmeriCorps member is assigned announced its closing due to funding issues. AmeriCorps Kids First Initiative Program will continue to be a valuable asset to our community by providing exceptional service to the agencies it serves.
