Two FREE workshops: Wills vs Trusts & Medicaid Planning

posted 11/1/2011

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County is once again partnering with Corning attorney Patrick J. Roth, Esq. CPA, for two free informational workshops on Wednesday, November 9 at the Dormann Library, West Morris St., Bath.

The first, Medicaid Planning Survival Guide, will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. The workshop will explain what you need to know about the new Medicaid law so you can plan to protect yourself, your loved ones and your estate. Planning for your long-term care is more critical today than it ever has been, and the pitfalls inherent are numerous.

•Learn critical information that could help you avoid those common planning pitfalls.
•Learn about various types of care available and what this care costs.
•Discover the basic rules for Medicaid eligibility for married couples and single individuals. •Learn the most current techniques for protecting your hard earned assets.
•Learn to spot common long-term care planning myths so they don't interfere with your plan.

The second, Wills versus Trusts will be offered from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Estate planning today is more complicated than it has ever been. Often, mistakes in a plan are not discovered until someone has passed on. Unfortunately, then it is too late. Join us for an informational look at planning with Revocable Living Trusts. Roth will include:

•How can a Revocable Living Trust based estate plan help protect you and secure your family's future?
•Do you know the unknown truths about planning with a Revocable Living Trust?
•Discover the 16 situations in which a Trust can have legal advantages over a Will.
•Learn the truth about the hidden costs of a Will based estate plan that no one talks about.

These workshops are free, but registration is required. Please call Cornell Cooperative Extension at 607-664-2300 to reserve a space. For more information on this and related topics, visit www.putknowledgetowork.com.
