Coordinated Transportation Services

Transportation is more than rides

The Coordinated Transportation Services Volunteer Program is more than just providing rides. As a transportation solutions service, it uses the one call, one click 2-1-1 HELPLINE information and referral system to connect callers in need of transportation to the best-available service that will get them to and from the place they need. Through phone triage, callers are assessed for eligibility and linked to information, referral, or human service programs to address their needs.

The Volunteer Program connects riders to volunteer drivers. Volunteer drivers provide rides to non-emergency medical trips (doctors, clinics, hospitals, specialists, pharmacies), food-related trips (grocery stores or food pantries), and a one-time transport to human service agencies or appointments to meet critical needs. Without a car of one’s own, access to both services and amenities is a major challenge. When it comes to health care – the prime destination source for rides provided by our volunteers – this barrier can have potentially devastating consequences. These can be averted by providing both information and services.

Accessing Coordinated Transportation Services

Service providers and the public can simply call 2-1-1 to connect with Coordinated Transportation Services. Please call at least two work days prior to the appointment to ensure proper arrangements can be made (and a week’s notice is best).

The service is free, however riders receive a suggested donation notice the month following the ride. All donations are confidential and are used directly to continue and expand the service. Absolutely no one will be denied a ride due to an inability to contribute.

Volunteer Drivers Needed!

As a volunteer, we work with you. We appreciate the value of your time. You decide when, how much, or how little you would like to help, on an as needed basis. Volunteers are the lifeline of what we do! Volunteers use their own vehicles and reimbursement is available for all miles driven, meals and/or parking expenses incurred on an authorized transport.

If you would like more information about becoming a volunteer driver, please call 2-1-1 HELPLINE at 2-1-1 or 1-800-346-2211 and ask for Coordinated Transportation Services.

Coordinated Transportation Services is provided through a partnership of:
Steuben County Office for the Aging, NYS Office for the Aging, the Administration of Aging, and 2-1-1 HELPLINE.
