Corning Community College's Eileen Collins Observatory and the Elmira-Corning Astronomical Society will co-host, Kids' Night, on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 7-10 p.m. on the Spencer Hill Campus, Corning, NY. Activities will include astronomical crafts, planetarium shows, observing through our telescopes, comet demonstrations, facility tours, and many other enjoyable things to do. This event is fun for kids of all ages.

The Eileen Collins Observatory has many types and sizes of telescopes with the two largest telescopes being 20" and 16" reflectors. The 20" telescope is the one-tenth scale model of the Hale Telescope at Mount Palomar in California. Additional 14", 12", 10", 8", and 6" reflectors were built by members of the Elmira-Corning Astronomical Society. Telescopes are on display at the Observatory.

Tri County Housing Council is offering a homebuyer education class on Saturday, September 11, 2010, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at its office located at 143 Hibbard Road, Big Flats. Participants will learn about two homebuyer grant programs that are available in Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben Counties and how to apply for them. Other topics include budgeting and credit, shopping for a home, and getting a mortgage. Registration fee is $50 per family. Deadline to register is Monday, September 7, 2010.

Join Steuben County 4-H staff, 4-H leaders, and independent members and "kick off" the 2010-2011 year at our Informational Meeting!  This is a great opportunity to network with other leaders and keep abreast of upcoming changes and/or policies within the 4-H program.  Individuals interested in starting their own 4-H club will find that this is an excellent opportunity to get an overview of the 4-H program and project materials! In building your financial pyramid, each building block relies upon the strength and stability of the personal finance strategies used in the blocks below it. How strong is your financial pyramid?

The successful management of resistance is the

pivotal point of effective therapy. It is also a critical component

in alleviating therapists’ stress. Although most therapists

have been trained extensively in theoretical approaches,

few have had extensive training in dealing with

resistance. This is a fast paced, highly practical seminar

designed to teach innovative approaches and ideas to prevent,

avoid, and resolve resistance. These techniques are

applicable across a wide array of clients and problems, and

can be integrated with all theoretical approaches. Emphasis

will be on “how to” aspects of resistance management,

though the theory behind each approach is provided.

Specifically, this seminar will first present definitions

and a model for resistance that empowers therapists in

managing the problem. This is followed by a discussion of

common mistakes therapists make that promote resistance

and a discussion of the general principles for dealing with

resistance. More specific approaches and techniques are

then presented with particular attention given to utilizing the

inherent power of language to circumvent resistance. Common

client impasses such as “Yes, but…” and “I don’t know”

responses will be addressed. Upon completion of the training,
