Catholic Charities Receives Grants for Capital Improvements

Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler Counties was recently awarded $94,500 from local foundations. These grants will provide some of the necessary funds to implement capital improvements at Catholic Charities’ Samaritan Center and Second Place East Homeless Shelter.

The Samaritan Center and the Second Place East Homeless Shelter are our community’s safety net for the most vulnerable individuals and families in our community. Together, they provide housing, homeless prevention services, food, financial assistance, facilitated enrollment in programs and more. Catholic Charities has recently received large gifts from our local foundations to fortify our safety net with roofing, boilers, flooring, painting, kitchen/bath improvements and reception furniture.

Without the support of these foundations, we could not continue to provide the level of services our community needs. Please join Catholic Charities in thanking the following organizations for $94,500 in donations:

  • The Anderson Foundation
  • The Anderson-Evans Foundation
  • The Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.
  • The Corning Incorporated Foundation
  • The Hilliard Foundation
  • The McDonald Foundation
  • The Wegmans Foundation

Additionally, a thank you goes out to the United Way of the Southern Tier who supports the ongoing operations of both the Samaritan Center and Second Place East, as well as numerous individuals and churches. These community partnerships, forged with those who also recognize the pressing need in our community, are essential in creating a safety net for those in need.

Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler’s mission is about helping the most vulnerable members of our community and directly impacting their safety and well-being. Catholic Charities works to create change in the lives of individuals, families and the community.

Catholic Charities is thankful for the support of the community, Foundations and individual donors who help them accomplish the mission of impacting the community every day. If you are interested in donating, please visit or call 607-734-9784, ext. 2133 for ways you can help. It’s amazing what we can do together. hermes birkin
