In April 1998, construction began on what would become the Dormann Library in Bath. The new building was completed in January 1999 and we are celebrating our 20th Anniversary Year! Volunteers from the community helped move books from the Davenport Library in a long line: book-by-book, hand-to- hand. Maybe you were part of that human chain of book movers?
More changes came in 2009 to the Dormann Library with the addition of the Chapter’s Café, a place to get a delicious smoothie or a cup of coffee while you look for a great book to read or listen to. There was also an addition added to the north end of the building that now is home to a Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) - an early childhood education program run by ProAction, after serving as administrative space for the GST BOCES.
There are many ways that the community has been part of the Dorman Library’s story over the last twenty years: One of the ways that we have shown our appreciation in the past was by giving the library a giant “hug”. Maybe you won a prize during our Summer Learning Program. Are you bringing your children to a story time that you remembered going to as a kid? Are you the person that puts that last puzzle piece in place or makes a craft with other adults?
The Dormann Library is a community library that exists to support lifelong learning for the members of our community. That is our mission statement and we would like to celebrate with our neighbors and patrons the last twenty years of being able to do just that. Please join us on Thursday, April 11 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for some light refreshments and entertainment in celebration of all we have accomplished in the last 20 years!
