Finger Lakes Eat Smart New York Program Offers Several Nutrition Workshops in Steuben County

The Finger Lakes Eat Smart NY Program (FLESNY) is offering three different nutrition workshop series in May that are open to the public. FLESNY Nutrition Educator Jon Sterlace will be teaching each of the following classes.

MyPlate for My Family Workshop – Wednesdays, May 1, 15, 29

9:30-10:30 a.m. OR 11:00 a.m. -12:00 Noon at the Painted Post Food Pantry, 201 North Hamilton St., Painted Post

This is a hands-on nutrition and gardening class for parents and adults. Join us for a lesson on Vegetables and Fruits: Simple Solutions

  • We will learn about the “Parts of the Plant” and make a salad together
  • Find out how eating a variety of fruits and vegetables can help us
  • Discover how to make a vegetable container garden you can take home
  • Receive recipes, nutrition tips and information on successful gardening

Cooking Matters for Adults – Fridays, May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and June 7

9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Corning Salvation Army Food Pantry, 32 Denison Parkway East, Corning

Adult attendees will prepare healthy recipes together each week, participate in hands-on nutrition activities, and receive take-home groceries each time to make the recipe at home. Learn how to:

  • Cook healthy meals on a budget
  • Understand food labels
  • Fundamental food preparation skills

Eat Healthy, Be Active Community Workshops – Tuesday, May 21

10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Woodhull Community Church Pantry, 5208 West Main St., Woodhull

This is a hands-on nutrition workshop class for adults. Join FLESNY for hands-on lessons that cover:

  • How to prepare quick meals and snacks
  • Eating heathy on a budget
  • Add some fun physical activities to your lifestyle
  • Enjoy healthy food choices that taste great
