Pathways, Inc. Nichols Award Recognizes Outstanding Care of Foster Youth
Corning, NY—May 10, 2019—On May 2, 2019, at the annual Resource Parent Appreciation Dinner the Pathways, Inc. Therapeutic Foster Care program awarded The Nichols Award, also known as the Resource Parent of the Year Award, to Ron and Susan Chilson of Dundee, NY. The Nichols Award honors a Resource Parent/Family for going above and beyond in working with children and families.
The Chilsons have been Resource Parents for Pathways, Inc. for more than six years. Ron and Susan have gone above and beyond to open their home to children and teens from many communities in the Finger Lakes Region. The Chilsons have adopted two children from the Pathways, Inc. Therapeutic Foster Care program and continue to foster children and teens. The Chilsons are dedicated to keeping sibling groups together. They are strong educational advocates for youth, promote independent living skills for teens, and collaborate well with youths’ biological parents.
The Pathways, Inc. Therapeutic Foster Care Program is a community-based and family-centered program serving foster youth who have serious emotional, social, and behavioral issues or developmental disabilities in need of a therapeutic out-of-home placement. Resource Parents (certified foster parents) trained in mental health and developmental topics provide foster care to youths. Therapeutic Foster Care staff provide services to youths, siblings, and families in order to achieve permanency goals.
