The Dormann Library is pleased to be hosting a new free program this June with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County. We will be offering the “Money as You Grow Bookshelf” Program to families with children aged 6 to 10 years old. Many parents and caregivers want their families to have a strong financial foundation, but are not sure how to help their children’s money skills, habits, and attitudes grow.
The “Money as You Grow Bookshelf” Program uses children’s books to learn key money concepts through reading and play, while parents and caregivers are given the tools and support to gain the confidence in helping teach financial skills in the home.
The program will run on the following Monday afternoons from 3:30pm to 5:00pm at the Dormann Library: June 3, 10, 17, & 24. Attendance for the program is requested at the four sessions the program runs. Each session includes activities, healthy snacks, and childcare for younger siblings. Each family will also receive a copy of the book used during the weekly sessions to keep.
The “Money as You Grow Bookshelf” Program was developed by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection and is supported by outreach funds awarded by the Southern Tier Library System’s Coordinated Outreach Services Advisory Council.
You can call the library at 607-776-4613 (ask for Tara) for more information or to reserve a spot in the program. You can also email Tara at email@example.com. We will be closing registration on Friday, May 24. We hope you and your family will join us for a journey towards a strong financial literacy foundation.
