The Arc of Steuben Awarded $37,500 in Grants from NYSARC Trust Services
To support guardianship and new recreational opportunities for people with disabilities in Steuben County

BATH | The Arc of Steuben, a not-for-profit organization supporting people with disabilities in Steuben County, has been awarded $37,500 in grants from the Trustee Management Board of NYSARC Trust Services to support The Arc of Steuben’s guardianship and recreation programs.

NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts (SNT) that can make dramatic improvements to the lives of people with disabilities while enabling individuals to maintain eligibility for public benefits programs, such as Medicaid and SSI. For 2019, NYSARC Trust Services is proud to fulfill its commitment to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by awarding a total of $2,933,000 in grants to The Arc New York Chapters statewide.

This year, The Arc of Steuben received $22,500 to provide guardianship services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities that would not otherwise have a legal guardian or advocate. Supported by Chapter staff and community volunteers, The Arc of Steuben’s Guardianship program currently provides guardianship supports and services to five people. The funds will be used to offset some of the operating expenses of running the guardianship program; trips or projects for the people supported through the program; and associate training. Last year, the program purchased Music Therapy, museum memberships, Sirius Radio, Furniture, wall décor, a camera, and holiday gifts.

NYSARC Trust Services also awarded The Arc of Steuben $15,000 to develop new recreational opportunities to enrich the lives of the 230 members it serves.  Possible activities include bowling, purchase of movie tickets and YMCA passes. Also the organization is looking at art experiences such as a photography program.

The Arc of Steuben currently provides services to more than 950 people in Steuben and surrounding counties. Services include job-readiness training, community employment, residential, transportation, in-home services and respite. Families can obtain a wide variety of support services ranging from community employment to in-home services. The Arc of Steuben is person-centered, family-friendly, and community-oriented. The organization actively looks for opportunities to partner with the community and encourages their staff and those served to be positively involved in community life. For more information, visit
