Turning Point Needs Volunteers

Tuesday, August 20, 2019

If you are interested in volunteering for a nonprofit that has meaningful impact in your community, consider volunteering at Turning Point. Turning Point is looking for reliable volunteers to work at our Turning Point sites in Bath, Canisteo, Hornell and Painted Post.

The following opportunities are available Monday through Friday:

Front Desk Receptionist (Bath and Painted Post): The receptionist is the first person someone sees when they are asking for help.  The receptionist answers phones, directs people to the appropriate place, pulls files, makes coffee, provides referrals, and is a friendly presence that is there when people are going through hard times.  Morning and afternoon shifts are available.

Food Pantry Workers (Hornell): Volunteers are needed to take people through the pantry to get food for a family based on household size. This also includes stocking shelves, sorting food, and repacking certain items. Afternoon shifts are needed for taking people through the pantry, and morning shifts are available for stocking and preparing the pantry for the day.

Stocking and Sorting Volunteer (Canisteo): The Steuben County Rural Ministry needs volunteers to help stock the food pantry and to sort and display clothing. Shifts are available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the morning.

Volunteers must adhere to the policies and procedures of Catholic Charities of Steuben and respect the confidentiality of each client and the agency.

Education requirements include a high school diploma or GED. Other requirements include: a sensitivity to issues of low-income families; an ability to interact successfully and cooperatively with a wide variety of people; the ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision; a friendly, helpful, and non-judgmental attitude; a working knowledge of office equipment when volunteering for the front desk; and strong customer service skills.
