hurray for women in science!

Tanglewood news Aug 7 2019

Another amazing Meg Camp has concluded - thank you to all the volunteers, scholarship sponsors, and women in science who participated! 23 girls got to design science experiments and culture bacteria, propel themselves into the tree canopy at Tanglewood, read x-rays and diagnose cases, learn about fibers, create thunder and walk into a hot air balloon. Inspirational, empowering, and super fun.

Upcoming events:

Meteors & Moonshine. Friday August 16th, 8pm-9pm. Raise your glass... and your eyes to the sky! We're pairing the Perseid meteor shower with some local moonshine samples from Four Fights Distilling! Learn about meteors and other seasonal sky activity to keep an eye out for. This event is 21+.  $8 for members of Tanglewood, $13 for non-members. Online pre-registration is required.

Summer Drop-in Program: Feathered Dinosaurs! Monday August 19th, 10-11am. Meet our birds of prey and learn more about what they inherited from the dinos! This program is designed for elementary school children, and parents/guardians are required to stay with the kids for the duration of the program. $7 per family non-members, $5 per family for members of Tanglewood. Pay at the door (cash preferred)

Purchase tickets to the Dick's Open and raise money for Tanglewood! If you enjoy golf or Keith Urban, you can purchase tickets for the Dick's Open this August - and they will donate your ticket purchase right back to us. The tickets are good for the entire week of golf (Monday Aug. 12th-Sunday Aug. 18th) and include the Friday night Keith Urban concert. Call us or visit the nature center to purchase - $75 each. Thanks for your support!

Ongoing:

Hike, Learn, and Play! Bring your little ones (infants through preschoolers) up to Tanglewood for playtime outside in the sunshine! This free family program will keep your kids learning and growing all spring and summer long - Fridays at 10am, April through October. (Note: HLP will be canceled August 23 and 30th, because staff will be teaching summer camp those weeks!)

Want more birdsong in your life? We have feeders, houses, and even some sweet stuffed Audubon birds to cuddle with when it's rainy outside. Stop by the Nuthatch Gift Shop today to explore!

And if you're a member, remember that you get a 20% discount!

Interested in volunteering? Check out current opportunities and projects listed on VolunteerMatch!

Reminder! Dogs are allowed at Personius Woods, but NOT on the trails by the nature center. We are preserving ground-nesting bird habitats and appreciate your cooperation. We encourage you to hike with your dogs along the streams, fields, and forests at Personius.
