Healthy Families Steuben

Healthy Families Steuben is part of a statewide initiative, the Healthy Families New York Home Visiting Program, through the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.  It is a voluntary program that offers support and education to expectant and new parents in Steuben County. Families are offered long term home visiting services from Healthy Families Steuben until the child is ready for school. Healthy Families Steuben is a credentialed site of a nationwide initiative entitled Healthy Families America.  Healthy Families is provided locally through Kinship Family and Youth Services and the Institute for Human Services.

The goals of Healthy Families are to:

  1. Promote positive parenting skills and parent-child interaction
  2. Ensure optimal prenatal care, birth outcomes, and child health and development
  3. Improve family functioning, thereby increasing self-sufficiency.
  4. Provide support and information to expectant or new parents.
  5. Improve families’ social support systems by developing their ability to access and utilize needed community resources.

Health Family Study Demonstrates NYS Return On Investment

Healthy Families New York (HFNY)is based on the Healthy Families America home visiting model, which offers home based services toat-risk expectant and new parents in order to improve birth outcomes, promote the child’s healthy development, reduce child abuse and neglect, enhance positive parent-child interaction, and increase self-sufficiency.
