The new AmeriCorps Kids First Initiative members are now one quarter through their service year. They are working with youth and other clients on a daily basis at 19 local site agencies.
Much good work was done by the members during the holiday season. Members from several other AmeriCorps site agencies drove to Allegheny County to help out in the early morning on a Saturday with the annual “Breakfast with Santa”. They supervised and helped with the activities the kids participated in that day. Breakfast with Santa was an exciting day for the kids but it was just as exciting and rewarding for the AmeriCorps members themselves. The day was proof that, though the members may all work at different sites, they will come together when called upon by their fellow members.
For the new 2011/2012 program year, 21 full-time, and 1 less-than-full-time members are serving at local agencies. At this time last year, the 2010/2011 program year had 22 full-time, and 1 less-than-full-time members serving at local agencies.
Through November, 2011 (current 2011-2012 program year), members have accumulated 5,025 hours to date. At that time last program year, 5,602 hours of service had been performed.
