HIPAA-HITECH Educational Workshop Seminar

Have you ever sent a number of explanations of benefits (EOBs) to the wrong people? The EOBs are returned by the post office, unopened, as undeliverable. Is this an exception to the breach notification requirements of the HITECH regulations?

Does the HIPAA privacy rule prevent a friend or family member from picking up a prescription for a sick homebound person?

Those questions and others will be answered by registering for the third in my series of business workshop training sessions entitled "Handling HIPAA and HITECH without the Hysteria." Attached is the registration flyer for this 3 hour session scheduled for Wednesday, May 16 from 8 – 11am at Elite Therapy, 2667 Corning Rd., in Horseheads (next to Friendly’s Restaurant).

Patrick Lynch of Palatech Partners will join me as one of the presenters for the seminar. With several organizations having already received fines and penalties for violating the HIPAA and HITECH regulations, I believe our seminar comes at an opportune time. The two of us plan to cover the following topics during the session:

* Breach Notifications.
* Fund Raising Opt Outs.
* Accounting of Disclosures.
* Meaningful Use.
* Business Associate Amendments.

I believe this would be an excellent session (at a very affordable price) for any company representative who handles any employee’s protected health information (phi) concerning their health records, such as personnel/employee health insurance benefits. Organizations that play hide and seek with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) can come at a high price – fines, jail time, or legal settlements.
