FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY SPRING BOOK SALE RAISES MORE THEN $26k

posted 5/29/2012

The spring Friends of the Southeast Steuben County Library book sale was successful this season, raising a gross of $26,164.50 that benefits the library.

Dozens of volunteers are what makes these book sales so successful. “I can’t stress enough the work of the volunteers,” said book sale organizer Nancy Doutt. “I would say I have at least ten volunteers who give 20 or more hours during sorting week.” In addition to those ten there are so many others who give time throughout the year collecting, sorting and arranging the books in the donation garage.

Books, DVDs & CDs are accepted throughout the year by the Friends at the garage on the east end of the library off Pearl Street in Corning. Donations may be dropped into the slot in the garage door. For large donations, patrons can ask a library staff member to meet them at the garage to open the door.

Doutt mentioned that some of the volunteers come to the Friends through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and have been a wonderful help to the Friends. “We are an RSVP station,” Doutt added. She encourages other RSVP volunteers to give her a call at (607)562-3781 if they would like to help. In addition, those who wish to volunteer can also contact the library’s volunteer coordinator, Lori Reenan, for information about volunteering in the library. She can be reached at (607)936-3713 ext. 213 or by email at reenanl@stls.org.

The Spring Book Sale was held April 14-21 at the East Corning Fire Hall. It is one of two sales each year benefitting the Southeast Steuben County Library.

The dates for the Fall 2012 Book Sale are Oct. 13-20.
