C TRAN offers free bus tours to highlight local history of the Underground

C TRAN has teamed up with the Chemung County Historical Society to provide free bus tours during Saturday's Juneteenth Celebration. The 25-minute narrated tour will highlight the history of the Underground Railroad in Elmira, detailing John W. Jones' involvement.

Tours will originate every half hour at Ernie Davis Park from 11-3 on Saturday, June 16th. Those wishing to ride should visit the C TRAN table at the Juneteenth to sign up for the tour and receive a free souvenir ticket. Also at the booth, staff from the Chemung County Historical Society will have engaging hands-on-history activities for children and will host a "community conversation" on a historical topic.
