Starting Salary: $17.00 hourly
General Summary of Duties: This is a full-time, paid position with the Institute for Human Services, Inc. (IHS), a nonprofit organization located in Bath, N.Y. This position is contracted to work with the Steuben County Office for the Aging and is assigned to the Bath Office, but serving clients throughout the county. The Aging Well Planner is a member of the OFA/RSVP team, assisting with the development and implementation of Project CARE, aging in place services, promotion of evidence-based wellness programs, and volunteer engagement and retention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: As part of their regular duties, the Aging Well Planner will spearhead the implementation of the several programs, listed below:
- Project Care – this program serving the greater Bath area assists adults age 60 and over with maintaining independence at home by engaging volunteers in providing transportation, grocery shopping, friendly visiting, and other similar services. Duties include onboarding new clients and volunteers, matching volunteers with clients to provide service, and tracking service provided in the Peer Place and Volunteer Reporter databases.
- Evidence-Based Programs – SCOFA/RSVP hosts several programs promoting wellness in older adults. Currently, these include Tai Chi for Arthritis (aka Tai Chi for Health and Wellness), “A Matter of Balance,” and Powerful Tools for Caregivers. Duties include assisting each OFA/RSVP program with specific planning and promotion, volunteer engagement, and data collection. Training and certification to assist with specific programs will be provided.
- TRIAD and Fraud Prevention – the SALT Council (Seniors and Lawmen Together) is a collaboration between aging services professionals, senior citizens and law enforcement to share information on how seniors can avoid becoming victims of crimes and enhance the safety and quality of their lives. Reducing crime against the elderly is an essential element for overall wellness and remaining independent at home. Working with the RSVP Coordinator, duties will include engaging the Steuben County TRIAD group, and coordinating various community events that advocate for senior safety, such as fraud prevention education, drug take-back days, health files, etc.
- Volunteer Engagement and Retention – as part of the RSVP/OFA team, duties will include assisting with the onboarding and training of volunteers, planning recognition and other volunteer events, working with the RSVP Coordinator and the Volunteer Coordinator in the development of new volunteer opportunities, data tracking and entry, assisting with outreach to current volunteers, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an associate degree in human services, gerontology, health services, or physical or wellness education AND two years related experience, training, or equivalent combination of relevant education and training are required.
A valid driver’s license, a willingness to travel within Steuben County and reliable transportation are required. Travel within the county, as well as occasional travel outside of the area may be required for program and training purposes. Home office is in Bath, NY.
Desired Skills: The Aging Well Planner must have internet, computer hardware and software experience; excellent communication, as well as strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills; and an ability to work independently. The successful candidate will possess the ability to adapt to and maximize the use of installed and web-based applications. Due to the promotional nature of the position, knowledge and flexibility in utilizing social media and other marketing tools is a strongly preferred.
The successful candidate should be able to read and interpret general professional materials and program guidance and possess an ability to write reports and business correspondence; and develop rapport and effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and the general public. A commitment to professional development and customer service is necessary.
The job duties may require the successful candidate to stand; walk; sit; use hands; stoop, kneel, and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
