CORNING area

Public Health Seeks Volunteers for Community COVID Vaccine Distribution

Steuben County Public Health is working under NYSDOH direction for vaccine distribution and approved populations to receive the vaccine. Volunteers are urgently needed for a number of positions including:

Registration Advocates: Work directly with individuals to support and/or assist them in completing an on-line vaccine registration form.  Advocates may use a tablet or laptop computer to complete registrations.

Functional Needs Advocates: Work directly with individuals to support and/or assist them in physically navigating through stations at a vaccination site.  This may include coordinating/helping with temporary mobility devices at the vaccination site, or being a place holder in line for the individual.

Language/Translation Assistants: Work directly with individuals to ensure communication and understanding. Proficiency in American Sign Language or other languages is preferred, but not required.  Assistants may also help by connecting individuals to a translation service via a phone based language line.

Data Entry Staff: Work as part of the vaccination team, entering vaccine related information into a computer system.  Proficient with computers to update electronic records accurately and timely.

Medical Support Staff/Vaccinators: There is an ongoing need for people with medical backgrounds including Registered Nurses, Physicians, Dentists, etc. willing to assist with vaccination (per NYSDOH Guidance) and related tasks. 

Faith in Action

Faith in Action is in need of volunteers to drive our Corning seniors to their medical appointments. This volunteer opportunity is super flexible and rewarding! Create your own custom driving schedule conveniently online. You decide if you want local and/or out of town appointments.

If you have a few hours a month to spare and want to connect with senior adults then this would be great for you!  Due to COVID, safety precautions are currently in place for the protection of our clients and volunteers. 

Pantry of Angels

Did you know that approximately 1 out of every 6 Americans experience food insecurities daily?  Pantry of Angels Food Pantry in Lindley, NY needs your help providing food to many families in their area. Once a week or month, whatever your schedule allows. You will be in the company of a great group of volunteers! Strict COVID guidelines used.

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 18, 2021, is the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.  Choose to make this a day to serve!
