The Arc of Steuben Names Jonathan Stromsness as Associate of the Year

BATH | On August 25, Jonathan Stromsness was named Associate of the Year. This award is typically given out in May at The Arc of Steuben’s Annual Meeting; however, the meeting was canceled due to the pandemic Instead, Jonathan was surprised with the presentation of the award at the Industrial Park Complex with his family in attendance. Jonathan was nominated by Bona Elliott, Residence Manager, for helping fill vacant shifts in Bath and Hornell after his normal 8:00-4:15 shift at the Bath complex.

In addition to working as a Program Coordinator QIDP for the Innovative Supports Department, Jonathan helped cover vacant shifts at multiple houses. Jonathan was working at one residence while a person who lives in the house was having difficulty coping while dealing with some medical issues, and Jonathan was able to provide new staff on duty a visual experience in maintaining a calm and positive composure. “Jonathan is knowledgeable of person-centered approaches and shows many new staff what that looks like in action,” said Elliott.

On another occasion, Jonathan was only scheduled to work until 6 pm and had personal plans after work, after noticing that a person having difficulty that day Jonathan cancelled his personal plans and ended up staying the entire night to assist staff. “Each of the homes that Jonathan has helped is very appreciative,” said Elliott.

The Arc of Steuben wants to thank Jonathan for everything he does for the agency.
