The Dormann Library is starting new programming aimed at those aged 60 and older (although adults that are younger are welcome to attend!). We are calling the gatherings Senior Socials and they will be held on Wednesday mornings from 10:30am to 11:30am. The programs will include a variety of activities, such as crafting, a book club, and guest speakers.
We are partnering with the Steuben County Office for the Aging to create a Programming Team to help design and facilitate these gatherings. Please contact the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) at (607) 664-2298, if you would like to get involved.
In the meantime, the Dormann Library is pleased to offer the following for your enjoyment: On Wednesday, January 5th, we will watch a TED Talk by TED Fellow and NASA economist Alexander MacDonald entitled: “How Centuries of Sci-Fi Sparked Spaceflight”, followed by a discussion. The following week (1/12), we will get our craft on by making watercolor galaxies and then turning those into handmade cards.
You might have noticed a Space theme for these offerings. We are hosting a Winter Reading Program at the Dormann Library for the month of January and you can earn an extra participant ticket to put in the prize drawings by attending these events. Our Senior Social Book Club will be talking about the book Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly on Wednesday, January 26, if you want to start reading that now
