INTERIM CEO POSITION FOR THE UNITED WAY OF NEW YORK STATE (UWNYS)

PURPOSE:

The Board of Directors of the United Way of New York State (UWNYS) in historic Albany NY (the Capital Region) is seeking the services of an experienced interim CEO to guide the organization during the transition of our departing CEO. This unique opportunity will guide this state organization to create new leadership and its mission to strengthen the capacity of United Ways to be leaders in achieving results that improves the lives of all New Yorkers. To this end, the interim CEO will review membership commitment, external relationships with communities, partners and donors; and undertake the groundwork necessary to help ensure the recruitment of a permanent CEO. The period of performance is for 6 to 12 months. Compensation is negotiable. Most of the work can be done remotely but applicants should be available for occasional trips to the Capital Region, if needed. This position will report to Bob Gorman, Chair of the United Way Board of Directors.

BACKGROUND:

The United Way of New York State has 35 local United Way Members that engage in public policy, 211, ALICE and Covid-19 Response and Impact.

SERVICE AREA:

The United Way of New York State covers the entire state of New York and serves as a convenor for all United Ways in the state.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Program Assessment

o Review current programs and their partners and make recommendations for improvement

· Key Contact and Stakeholder Engagement

o United Way Worldwide

o United Way Council of States

o National ALICE and ALICE Partners in NY

o NY BOOST: Tax Policy Workgroup

· Recruitment of Executive Director

o Draft position description for CEO of UWNYS

o Design and implement a process to advertise and review candidates.

· Day to Day CEO Duties including:

o Oversight of bookkeeping firm, 25th Hour Accounting

o Oversight and completion of Audit

o Payroll processing

o Supervision of Staff (2 part time)

o Management of Accounts including Grants Gateway, Cureo, Office 365, IT, etc.

o JCOPE and lobbying compliance

o Engagement with Board of Directors and committees: scheduling meetings, agendas, presentations, logistics, follow-up, documentation

· Lobbying and Public Policy

o Oversee retained lobbying firm

o Coordinate PP Committee and volunteers

· Any and all duties as deemed necessary
