Turning Point Thanks Bath Simmons Rockwell Employees for Large Food Pantry Donation
In this season of giving thanks, Turning Point would like to thank Bath Simmons Rockwell General Manager Ed Spiess and Sales Professional Paul Parshall, who recently donated more than 700 pounds of bacon, ham steaks, pork roast, sausage links, and sausage patties, on behalf of Simmons Rockwell. The much-needed food was split between Turning Point’s food pantries in Bath, Canisteo, and Hornell.
To acquire the donation, Mr. Spiess and Mr. Parshall purchased five pigs during the annual 4-H Livestock Auction at the Steuben County Fair for approximately $4,000. Another pig was donated by Mr. Mike Murphy and Ms. Theresa Sweeney of Wayland, NY for $675. Mr. Glen Sensenig, owner of Log City Meats, also donated the processing at an estimated value of more than $1,000, making the total value of the donation approximately $5,675.
The donation will allow Turning Point to feed many of our neighbors in need. “As we serve more and more families throughout Steuben County, donations like this are imperative to our capacity to improve food security for our neighbors. We are so thankful to Simmons Rockwell employees not only for their support and generosity, but also for providing a variety of product to allow the people we serve to have a choice in their food and, as such, be treated with dignity,” said Olivia Dates, Turning Point Assistant Director.
“This wonderful donation will help the many people we serve in our community to not worry about where their next meal is coming from. It’s amazing donations like this that give us the ability to serve the growing number of people in need in our community,” said Joanna Gleason, Turning Point Bath Pantry Coordinator.
“This year in Hornell we’ve seen a 34% increase in pantry visits. This donation is so important to helping us serve a growing need in the community. I can’t thank Simmons and Rockwell enough for thinking of us and the community at large,” said Turning Point Hornell Rural Coordinator Steve Olix.
